5. Utilise skills from other modules on the course.

Process

The Worriers was a project which allowed me to explore two elements of creative work: app design and creating an advert.

I called this project 'The Worriers' because it sounds like the warriors, to make users feel empowered. I decided to have the favicon of a man wearing a cape to show anxiety can make you stronger. I started with drawing the logo in Illustrator and developing this further in Adobe Illustrator creating several experiments before I found the one I liked the most.

For the app, I began making quick brainstorms on my phone of icon ideas, app features and webpages. I developed these as wireframes in Adobe XD and then developed these further into finished app screens. To make them smartphone shaped I added them into Adobe Illustrator and remade them to the style I wanted for the advert.

I created a first draft of the storyboard but I didn't really like the presentation of it so once I had finished the design of the assets for the advert I remade the storyboard before starting the advert.

To set the pace of the advert I chose my music from Pixabay (Copyright free) to help guide me. I set the pace of the advert to have slow gentle movements to set the tone of the app.

I created the advert in Adobe After Effects using various effects such as the Typewriter effect and Puppet tool for the meditation episode snippet. I also animated the app as if someone is using it in the advert to show the audience how it works. I made some changes to the advert such as changing the background from a solid yellow one to a gradient of orange and yellow that moves around through the advert. Additionally, I changed the cursor in the advert from a black arrow to a white circle as I felt this fit the app better.

I then exported the finished animation out of After Effects and into Adobe Premiere Pro where I added the music in and sound effects such as typing, all copyright free from Pixabay,

Information for the sleep disorder section of the app came from the NHS website.

Evaluation

I thoroughly enjoyed working on this project because it was something different in terms of using Adobe XD and it allowed me to come to grips with Adobe After Effects more after finding it so daunting. Whilst the phone screens in the advert could have looked sharper, I am really proud of the final product.
