Brief

Reflect on previous work and create refined content, documenting the process and demonstrating a technical understanding and creative ability.

Objectives

1. To explore visual techniques, concepts and techniques and apply them creatively,
2. To develop and document ideas and design processes.
3. To demonstrate an understanding and application of using hardware and software creatively.

Process

For this brief the creative decisions were left up to us in terms of the video we delivered as long as it demonstrated our skills and was experimental.

I wanted to make club visuals for this brief because I had never made them before and so it was a new challenge for me in my degree.

I chose to make this for a club called More of This which is a fictional 1980s themed club which I imagined to have a colour palette of pink, purple and blue.

I experimented with different shades of pinks, purples and blues before choosing the final colour scheme.

For fonts I looked at several retro fonts on Adobe fonts before choosing 'Feneon' and I carried out tests to see which version of Feneon I was going to use in my visuals.

Based on research for existing club visuals I began drawing some ideas for scenes for my club visuals. I used this to guide me in making my visuals in Adobe Illustrator and along the way more ideas came into mind that I wanted to also make.

I also wanted to experiment with glow to really make my scenes pop whilst playing around with vibrant colours to see which worked best.

I chose a Copyright free song from Pixabay to guide me for the timings of my scenes and I used this to match a scene to an instrument in the song.

I developed and animated all of my scenes in Adobe After Effects which was a challenge because I was making this and The Worriers at the same time so I really had to get to grips with the software as I hadn't really used it that much previously. However, I overcome a lot of hurdles and even experimented with new areas of After Effects such as working with 3D objects and cameras.

At the end, I exported my scenes out of After Effects and added them into Adobe Premiere Pro to add the music.

Evaluation

The colour scheme and fonts for this project fit the vibe of the 1980s really well. I struggled with masking inside Adobe After Effects so the scene in particular where the strobe lights come down could have been better as the mask removes a part of the strobe light next to the coming down. Overall, I was pleased with this project, it was fun and exciting to make.
