TV Idents

Project Type

3D & Animation

Date

February 2024 - May 2024

Software

Cinema 4D, Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Illustrator

Soft Skills

Creating a consistent identity throughout the 4 idents whilst adhering to a seasonal theme.

Brief

Using a range of 3D modelling and animation techniques, create a series of high-quality idents for a TV channel or online streaming service.

Objectives

1. Use appropriate tools to create 3D models, texture and lighting.
2. Demonstrate my understanding of materials taught in lectures.
3 Render 3D animations using complex techniques.

Process

Initially, it was asked of us to research existing TV channels and their idents to see what type of style we wanted to try.

I chose Sky Kids because after researching them I found the existing TV idents were very colourful but I wanted to redesign them for my assessment to have more assets and make 4 holiday idents to complete the brief.

I decided the 4 holidays would be: New Years Eve, Easter, Halloween and Christmas.

I noted down from my research into Sky Kids TV idents that the 'Sky' part of the logo usually stays stationary whereas something happens in the ident to make the 'Kids' part appear. I kept this idea in my designs.

A large process was carried out during this to create the colour scheme and assets for these 4 scenes. I began brainstorming ideas onto paper of which assets are typically associated with certain holidays of the year.

I did some drawings of what I wanted the assets in the scenes to look like roughly by using Copyright free images for reference and inspiration. I used these to create the assets in Adobe Illustrator in order to make the storyboards and styleframes.

I also got to work on the Sky Kids logo to make them fit their respective holiday themes too. I started by drawing ideas and developing them in Adobe Illustrator.

I added the scenes and the logos together creating a final storyboard and styleframes for each ident.

I made the 4 idents in Cinema 4D using tools from the software to recreate the storyboards I had made and animated in Cinema 4D as well.

Once I had modelled, textured, added lighting and animated everything, I exported the idents out of cinema 4D and added them into Adobe Premiere Pro to add the sound effects.

The sound effects came from Pixabay - Copyright free.

Evaluation

I was really confident in the illustrations I made on Adobe Illustator for this project in terms of storyboards and styleframes. I did struggle with using Cinema 4D as I had only used it once before at the time so it was a lot to go from making one item in a previous assessment to making four scenes but that was my ambition. The animation could have been smoother but I think overall, they are quite cute scenes.
